![]() ![]() There’s still no place quite as haunting as Rapture and the best part about this new installment is that players can explore outside, albeit for a brief amount of time. It makes things less terrifying and gives you ample time to stock up on ammo and Eve. However, the term “abused” is applied because within the first hour of the game, you can predict when she will make her scripted appearance. When you hear her high pitched scream, you better make sure you have your best equipment. She is possibly one of the most interesting and abused new characters in the game. This is not a Call of Duty shooter, it’s much more tactical and sometimes players may have to pause to think about their next move, especially when dealing with the Big Sister. Players encounter new enemies, with the familiar ones being just as vicious. There are a number of great new weapons to experiment with, especially the drill. For example, the research camera now captures movement. ![]() Tools that were once a pain to use due to their interruptions are now a welcome addition. Players can also melee with any weapon and it is quite satisfying. The first being that players can now duel wields weapons and Plasmids and use them both simultaneously. Story contrivances aside, there are better combat mechanics in this game. Why are players the only Big Daddy able to use Plasmids? Where was Sophia Lamb in the first game? The story also fails to explain some weird story elements. Though finding Little Sister seems to be a good motivation, as a player you can’t help but wonder why Big Daddy is taking orders from people you have never met. The story is interesting, but it never gets to the same level as its predecessor. She may not have the madness or the charisma of the previous leader, Andrew Ryan, but she is a deadly force. The main obstacle is the new leader, Sophia Lamb. The only thing players need to know is that your Little Sister is missing and you have to make your way through tough obstacles to get to her. Players are the prototype Big Daddy who wakes up 10 years later after facing a traumatic ordeal. This isn’t advantageous for newcomers, though, because the game makes a lot of references to the original. Everything from obtaining your first Plasmid to harvesting or rescuing a Little Sister feels like you have done it before. However, players that loved the first one will get a strong sense of déjà vu that lasts until the last third of the game. This is not to say that BioShock 2 is a bad game. Considered by many as the best game of 2007, does the sequel live up to its forefather’s game-changing footstep? The mechanics were solid and the story was compared to some great works of literature. The first BioShock changed the way gamers played FPS (First Person Shooters). ![]()
